Grammatical Sūtra: तयोर्य्वावचि संहितायाम् tayoryvāvaci saṃhitāyām

Description:

For these vowels ((i)) and ((u)) are substituted ((y)) and ((v)) when a vowel follows them in a samhita (in an unbroken flow of speech). Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

In continuous utterance (sáṁ-hi-tā-y-ām) the substitute phonemes y and v [respectively 1.3.10] replace them (tay-oḥ = iT, uT 107) [before 1.1.66] a vowel (aC-i).
