citphuro'rityato ṇāviti, `bibheterhetubhaye' ityato hetubhaye iti ca. tatra ca
bhayagrahaṇaṃ smayasyāpyupalakṣaṇam, atra tu smaya eva vivakṣitaḥ,
smayaterbhītyarthakatvā'saṃbhavāt. tadāha – smayatereca ityādi. `vibhāṣā līyate'
rityato vibhāṣānuvṛttinivṛttaye nityagrahaṇam. atha `bibheterhetubhaye' iti, `nityaṃ
smayate'riti ca āttvavidhau, `bhīsmyorhetubhaye'iti ātmanepadavidhau ca hetugrahaṇasya
prayojanamāha– hetoścedbhayasmayāvityukterneheti. kuñcikayainamiti. keśabandhaviśaeṣaḥ

syādityarthaḥ. smayo'tra prayojakamūlako neti yuktameva, kintvāttvapugākṣepo na
yujyate ityadrdhāṅgīkareṇa pariharati - satyamiti. vismāyayannityeti. ṇau āyādeśe
smāyītyasmāllaṭaḥ śatari śapi ṇerguṇe ayādeśe vismāyayannityeva kālidāso mahākaviḥ
prāyuṅkta. `vismāpaya' nniti pakārapāṭhastu lekhapramādakṛta iti bhāvaḥ. yadveti. rājā
dilīpo vismayate. taṃ siṃhoccāritā manuṣyavāk prayojayati– `vismāpayate manuṣyavāk
rājānam'. atra manuṣyavāk prayojakakatrrī. rājā tu prayojyakarteti sthitiḥ. atra
