Description:

To a name expressing a multitude living by the trade of arms, is added the affix ñyaṭ (±'((ya)) with the fem. in ((ī))), when it is the name among the Vâhûka, but not when it is the name of a Brâhmaṇa, nor when the word is Râjanya. Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

[The taddhitá 4.1.76 affix 3.1.1] ÑyaṬ is introduced [after 3.1.2 a nominal stem 4.1.1] designating a mercenary group (ā-yudh-a-jīv-i-saṁ-gh-āt) pleonastically, residing in the Vāhīka country, excluding the names of brahmins and warriors (°-rājany-āt).
