nanu ca bahukurucaretyatra samudāyaḥ striyāṃ vatrtate, nāvayavaḥ na ca samudāyaṣṭit, kiṃ tarhi? avayavaḥ tatra ṭita ucyamāna īkāraḥ kena punaḥ samudāyādaṭitaḥ syāt? bahukukkuṭetyatrāpi samudāyaḥ striyāṃ vatrtate, nāvayavaḥ. na ca samudāyo jātivacanaḥ, kiṃ tarhi ; avayavaḥ. tatra jātivācina ucyamānaḥ pratyayaḥ kenājātivācinaḥ samudāyāt syāt, yatpratiṣedhārthamidamucyata iti manyamāna āha-- "katham" ityādi. "tadantavidhinā" iti. parihāraḥ. tatraitat syāt-- "grahaṇavatā prātipadikena tadantavidhiḥ pratiṣidhyate" (vyā.pa.89) iti, ata āha-- "jñāpitañca" ityādi. "śūdrā cāmahatpūrvā jātiḥ" ga.sū.40.4.1.4) ityatra mahatpūrvetyanenāsmin prakaraṇe tadantavidhiriti jñāpitametat. "tathā ca" iti. evaṃ satītyarthaḥ yasmāt pūrvaṃ tadantavidhiriha prakaraṇe'stīti jñāpitametat; anena ca sūtreṇopasarjanena tadantavidhiḥ pratiṣidhyate, nānupasarjanena, evañca sati pradhānena tadantavidhirbhavatyeva. tena kumbhakārī, nagarakārīti siddhaṃ bhavati. tatra hi kāraśabdo'ṇantaḥ pradhānam. tadantāt samāsāt "ṭiḍ()ḍhāṇañ" 4.1.15 itīkāraḥ syādeva. nanu cāṇityatrāṇiti kṛd()grahamam, tataśca "kṛd()grahame gatikārakapūrvapadasyāpi grahaṇam" (vyā.pa.126) ityanayā paribhāṣayaiva kumbhakāraśabdāt kārāntādīkāraḥ sidhyati, tato nedaṃ tadantavidhijñāpanasya prayojanamityata āha-- "na ca" ityādi. kathaṃ na? ityāha-- "taddhito'pyaṇasti" iti. tasyāpyatra grahaṇam, anyathā hraupagavīti na sidhyet. tasmānnedaṃ kṛdgrahaṇam, kiṃ tarhi? kṛdakṛdgrahaṇam. tatra yadi tadantavidhirna jñāpyate, tadāṇiti pratyayagrahaṇam, "pratyayagrahaṇe yasmāt sa vihitastadādestadantasya ca grahamaṃ bhavati" (pu.pa.vṛ.44) itīhaiva syāt-- aupagavīti, iha tu na syāt-- kumbhakārīti, atra hi dhātoraṇ vihitaḥ, tadantaśca striyāṃ na vatrtate; tāvanmātrasya kāraśabdasya prayogābhāvāt. yā vā strīyāṃ vatrtate sopapadam, na tasmāt pratyayo vihitaḥ. tadantavidhau tu jñāpite kāraśabdāntādapīkāraḥ sidhyati॥

ityetat prātipadikaviśeṣaṇam. ataeva tadantavidhirato vyācaṣṭe `ṭudantaṃ
prātipadika'miti vyākhyānaṃ saṅgacchata eva. `stanandhayī'tyatra tu pratyayasya
ṭittvābhāve'pi dhātoṣṭittvasyā'caritārthatvātsamudāyātsyādeva ṅībiti
vakṣyati. anye tu–ḍhādaya eva pratyayāḥsa ṭiditi tu pratyayā'pratyayasādhāraṇaṃ, tena
ṭidyātpratipadikaṃ ḍhādyantaṃ ca yatprātipadikamityarthaḥ. ṭittvaṃ tu
prātipadikasya kvacitsvataḥ, kvacitpratikṛtaṃ bhavati, avayavadharmasya samudāye
upacārāt. tatra ādyasyodāharaṇam—kurucarīti. dvitīyasyodahāraṇaṃ–nadaḍiti.
pacādiṣuṭito'sya pāṭhātsvata eva ṭittvam. tṛtīyantu `dheṭaṣṭittvātstanandhayī'ti
kṛdante udāhariṣyatītyāhuḥ. kurucarīti. kuruṣu caratītyadhikaraṇopapade `careṣṭaḥ'iti
kartari ṭaḥ. upasarjanatvānneheti. bahavaḥ kurucarā sā yāsyāṃ sā bahukurucareti
bahubrāīhirinyapadārthapradhānāstathā ca ṭujantasyopasarjanatvānṅīnbetyarthaḥ.
vakṣyamāṇeti. brāūño lṛṭi `lṛṭaḥ sadve'ti śanac. `brāuvo vaci'riti vacyādeśaḥ.
`vaca paribhāṣaṇe'ityasmātkarmaṇi vā lṛṭaḥ śānac. `syatāsī'iti syaḥ. kutvaṣatve.
`āne muk'iti muk. ṭittvādugittvācceti. sthānivadbhāvenetyarthaḥ. na
cā'lvidhitvātkathamiha sthānivadbhāva iti śaṅkyam, `na lyapi'iti
jñāpakādanubandhakāryeṣu `analvidhau'iti niṣedhasyā'pravṛtteḥ. ataeva `ramayā'mityādau
paratvānṅerāmi kṛte sthānivadbhāvenā''mo ṅitvāt `yāḍāpaḥ'iti yāḍāgamaḥ sidhyati.
jñāpanānna bhavatīti. liṅādeśaparasmaipadānāṃ sthānivadbhāvenaiva ṅittvālābhāttadāgamasya
yāsuṭo ṅittvaṃ vyarthaṃ sat `lāśrayānubandhakāryamādeśānāṃ ne'ti sāmānyato
jñāpayatīti bhāvaḥ. `picca ṅinne'tyadādigaṇe vakṣyamāṇatvāttibādiṣvaupadeśikena
pittvenātideśikaṃ ṅittvaṃ bādhyata iti yāsuṭo ṅittvāsya vaiyathryā'bhāvānna
tajjñāpayatīti śaṅkamānaṃ pratyāha–śnaḥ śānaca śittvenetyādi. sauparṇeyīti.
`kadrūśca vai suparṇī'ti śrutiḥ. suparṇīśabdādapatye'rthe `samāyā yaḥ'
`ḍhaśchandasī'ti vihitastayoreva ḍhayogrrahaṇena bhavitavyaṃ na tu ḍhakaḥ. satyam. śilāyā ḍhasya
svabhāvānnapuṃsaka eva parvṛtteḥ striyāmasaṃbhavāt. sabhāyā ḍhasya ca `sabheyī'ti
striyāṃ chandasi prayogā'darśamanādanyasya hi niranundhasyā'sambhavādagatyā sānubandhako
gṛhrate. aindrīti. indro devatā asyāḥ. `sā'sya devate'tyaṇ.indrasyeyamiti
vā vigrahaḥ. `tasyeda'mityaṇ. atra vyācakṣate—`kṛddhahaṇe
gatikārakapūrvasye'tyasya pravṛttyabhāṣe'pi aṇṇantasya
prātipadikaviśeṣaṇātadantāntamapi gṛhrata iti kumbhakāraśabdānṅīpsyādeva. astu vā
kāraśabdādeva ṅīp, tathāpi `kumbhakārī'ti rūpaṃ sidhyatyeva. na ca kāraśabdādeva ṅīp,
tathāpi `kumbhakārī'ti rūpaṃ sidhyatyeva. na ca kāraśabdānṅīpi tadantāt `strībhyo
ḍhak'iti ḍhakpratyaye kaumbhakāreyo na sidhyediti vācyam, anupasarjanastrīpratyaye
tadādiniyamā'bhāvāttatsiddheḥ. nāpi niyamā'bhāve `kārī'śabdātkadāciḍḍhaki
`kumbhakāreya'iti rūpaṃ syāditi śaṅkyam. `samarthaḥ padavidhi 'riti
vakṣyamāṇatvenā'samarthadhāttaddhitānutpatteriti manoramāyāntu iha sūtre'nekaṃ
vākyaṃ, tatrā'nupasarjanamaṇ, tasya yo'kārastadantāditi vyākhyānānneha–āpiśalamadhīte
āpiśalā brāāhṛṇīti. atra hi proktarthe yo'ṇśrīyamāṇaḥ, sa upasarjanam. yastu
pradhāno'dhyetraṇ `proktālluk'iti sa luptaḥ. varṇaprādhānyānna
pratyayalakṣaṇamataṣṭābeva bhavatīti sthitam. nanvevamāpiśaleti
rūpasiddyarthamanupasarjanagrahaṇasyāvaśyakatvena sāmarthyopakṣayātkathametasya
tadantavidhijñāpaketi cet; atrāhuḥ–svaritatvapratijñayī
adhikāro'yamityadhikāratvāśrayaṇādanupasarjanagrahaṇaṃ vyartham. añantasyādyudāttatvena
ṅīmṅīno svare viśeṣā'bhāvāt. maivam. utsasyāpatyaṃ strī
otsītyatrā'ñantalakṣaṇaṃ ṅīpaṃ bādhitvā paratvājjātilakṣaṇe ṅīṣi prāpte
tadbādhanārthaṃ tasyāvaśyakatvāt. na caivaṃ `śāṅrgaravādyañaḥ'iti ṅīnāsa siddhamidaṃ
rūpamityañgrahamiha na kartavyamiti vācyaṃ, tatra `jāte'rityanuvṛtteḥ. anyathā
śāṅrgaravasya strī śāṅrgaravī, autsasya strī autsītyādau puṃyoge'pi
paratvānṅīnsyānna tu ṅīṣ. iṣyate tu puṃyoge ṅīṣeva. tasmādbhavādyarthasya
jātitvenā'paribhāṣaṇādbhāvādyarthe ṅībarthamihāpyañgrahaṇamāvaśyakameveti dik.
ūrudvayasītyādi. ūrū pramāṇamasyāḥ sā. `pramāṇe dvayasajdanghañmātracaḥ'. yadyatra
`na loke'ti sūtre tṛnnitivaddvayasajiti mātracaścakāreṇa pratyāhāro gṛhrate, tadā
danghañmākpajgrahaṇamihā'kartuṃ śakyam. pañcatayīti. pañcāvayavā asyāḥ. `saṅkhyāyā
avayave tayap'. ākṣikīti. `tena dīvyatī'ti ṭhak. lāvaṇikīti. lavaṇaṃ paṇyamasyāḥ.
`lavaṇāṭṭhañ'. ṭhakṭhañormedenopādānaṃ ṭhannivṛttyartham, teneha na,–daṇḍo'styasyāḥ
sā daṇḍikā. `ata inī'ti ṭhan. ataeva ñiṭhante'pi na ṅīp. kāśiṣu bhavā kāśikā.
`kāśyādibhyaṣṭhaññiṭhau'. yādṛśīti. `tyadādiṣu dṛśa'iti kañ. `ā
sarvanāmnaḥ'ityākāraḥ. itvārīti. eti tacchīlā. `iṇnaśajisartibhyaḥ kvarap'.
`hyasvasya piti kṛti tuk'. kvarapo'nyatarānubandhopādānaṃ spaṣṭārtham. ekenaiva
varaco vyāvṛttisiddheḥ. `vinyastamaṅgalamahauṣadhirī\ufffdārāyāḥ'iti bhāraviḥ. tatra
`stheśamāse'ti varac. `ī\ufffdārī'ti tu tredhā. puṃyogalakṣaṇe ṅīṣyantodātta
mekam, `īccopadhāyāḥ'ityanuvṛttau `aśnoterāśukarmaṇi vara'ṅityauṇādike varaṭi
ṭittvānṅīpi madhyodāttamaparam, īśeḥ kvanapi vanipi vā
ṅībrāāyorādyudāttadamanyat. tācchīliketi. ayaṃ bhāvaḥ—`śīlaṃ'`chātrādibhyo
ṇaḥ'iti vihito yo ṇastasminnaṇkāryaṃ bhavati, `kārmastācchīlye'iti jñāpakāt.
tatra hi `a'nnityaṇi vihitaṃ prakṛtibhāvaṃ bādhituṃ ṭilopo nipātyate, yadi tu
ṇapratyaye aṇkāryaṃ na syāttarhi kiṃ tena?. tācchīlike
evā'ṇkāryajñāpanānneha,—daṇḍaḥ praharaṇamasyāṃ krīḍāyāṃ dāṇḍā. `tadasyāṃ
praharaṇa'miti ṇaḥ. `chatrādibhyo''ṇityeva sūtramastu kimanayā kusṛṣṭa\ufffdeti tu
bahavaḥ. caurīti. curā śīlamasyāḥ.
nañsnañ. vṛttikṛtā tvatrātyakhyungrahaṇaṃ sūtre prakṣipya
`kvarapkhyunā'miti paṭhitam, tacca bhāṣyaviruddhamityuttaratra sphuṭībhaviṣyati.
straiṇī pauṃsnīti. `strīpuṃsābhyā'miti nañsnañau. śāktīkīti. śaktiḥ
praharaṇamasyāḥ. `śaktiyaṣṭa\ufffdorikak'. āḍha\ufffdṅkaraṇīti. anāḍha\ufffd āḍhyaḥ
