Description:

The affix 'Liṅ' is employed after a root, when the expectation (of a person or thing being able or competent to do or suffer the action denoted by the verb) is implied (or expressed by any other word used along with them) than 'alarn'. Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

[The l-substitutes of lIṄ 152 are introduced after 1.2 a verbal stem 1.91] to denote the expectation (sam-bhāvan-e) (that someone is capable of performing the action), provided the implied word álam `capable' (or its synonym) is not actually used (siddha=a-prayog-é).
