"vā'sarūpo'striyām" 3.1.94 ityasmin dhātvadhikāre'sarūpo'pavādo bādhako yathā syāt, pūrvatra mā bhūt. tena ksādibhiḥ sicaḥ samāveśo na bhavati. nanu ca pūrveṇāpi dhātugrahaṇenārdhadhātukasaṃjñā setsyati, kiṃ dvitīyadhātugrahaṇena? ityata āha-- "dhātorityevam" ityādi. dhātorityevaṃ dhātuśabdamuccārya vihitasyārdhadhātukasaṃjñā yathā syādityevamarthaṃ punardhātukṛgrahaṇamityarthaḥ. kimarthaṃ punardhātorityevaṃ vihitasyārdhadhātukasaṃjñocyate? ityāha-- "iha mā bhūt" itati.asati dvitīye dhātugrahaṇe lūbhyām, lūbhirityatrārdhadhātukasaṃjñā syāt. bhavati hratra dhātoḥ paraḥ pratyayaḥ-- "kvibantā dhātutvaṃ na jahati" (vyā.pa.132) iti kṛtvā. ārdhadhātukatve satyārdhadhātukalakṣaṇa iṭ prasajyeta. dvitīyaṃ tu dhātugrahaṇaṃ kriyamāmaṃ sāmathryādchabandapadātmakaṃ bhavati. tenāyamartho labhyate-- dhātorityevaṃ dhātusaṃśabdanena yo vihitaḥ sa ardhadhātukasaṃjño bhavatīti. tena lūbhyāmityādāvārdhadhātukatvaṃ na bhavati. na hīha dhātorityevaṃ pratyayo vihitaḥ, kiṃ tarhi? prātipadikādityevam॥
"saptamyā nirdiṣṭam" ityanena saptamīsthamityasyārthamācaṣṭe. śabdasya hīyaṃ saṃjñā vidhīyate, sa ca kaḥ saptamīstho bhavati? yasyāḥ saptamyā nirdeśaḥ. "kumbhakāraḥ" iti. upapadasaṃjñāyāṃ "upapadamatiṅa" 2.2.19 iti samāsaḥ, "gatikārakopapadāt kṛt" 6.2.138 ityattarapadasya prakṛtisvaratvaṃ bhavati.
"sthagrahaṇam" ityādi. nirdiśyate'neneti nirdeśaḥ. saptamī nirdeśo yasya sa saptamīnirdeśaḥ. tatpratipattyarthaṃ sthagrahaṇam. etaduktaṃ bhavati-- sūtre yat saptamyā nirdiṣṭaṃ tasya saṃjñitvena pratipattiryathā syādityevamarthaṃ sthagrahaṇam. yadi punaḥ sthagrahaṇaṃ na kriyate, tataḥ kiṃ syādityata āha-- "itarathā hi" ityādi. itarathā hrakriyamāṇe sthagrahaṇe "saṃjñāvidhau pratyayagrahaṇe tadantavidhirnāsti" (pu.pa.vṛ.81) itisaiva saptamyupapadasaṃjñāṃ pratipadyeta. na cāsataḥ saṃjñinaḥ saṃjñā yukteti yatra śrūyate saptamī-- stamberama ityādau tatraiva syāt. syādetat-- naitat pratyayagrahaṇam,kiṃ tarhi? saptamīśabdasya svarūpasya grahaṇamityāha-- "yatra" ityādi. gatārtham. "sthagrahaṇāttu" ityādi. sthagrahaṇe tu kriyamāṇe granthādhikyāt sūtre yasya saptamyā nirdeśastat saṃjñitvena nirdiśyate, tenu sarvaṃ siddhaṃ bhavati; yeṣāmiyaṃ saṃjñeṣyate teṣāṃ sarveṣāmeva sūtre saptamīnirdeśāt. tathā hi-- "stambakarṇayoḥ" 3.2.13 ityatra stambakarṇaśabdau sūtre saptamyā nirdiṣṭau. "saptamyāṃ janerḍaḥ" 3.2.97 ityatrāpyupasarādayaḥ. "karmaṇyaṇ" 3.2.1 ityatrāpi karmābhidhāyinaḥ kumbhaprabhṛtayaḥ.
nanu ca lāghavārthaṃ saṃjñākaraṇam, tatkimarthaṃ gurvī saṃjñā kriyate? ityāha-- "gurusaṃjñākaraṇam" ityādi. upaśabdaḥ sāmīpye. upoccāritaṃ padamupapadamityanyarthasaṃjñāvijñāne sati samarthaparibhāṣāvyāpāro yathā syādityevamarthaṃ gurusaṃjñākaraṇam. samarthaparibhāṣopasthāne sati yadiṣṭaṃ sampadyate taddarśayitumāha-- "paśya kumbham" ityādi. anvarthasaṃjñāyāṃ hi satyāmupapadāśrayaḥ pratyayaḥ padavidhirbhavati. yatra ca padagandho'pyasti tatra samarthaparibhāṣopatiṣṭhate. tena paśya kumbhaṃ karoti kaṭamityatra "karmaṇyaṇ" 3.2.1 na bhavati. na hīha kumbhasya karotinā sāmathryam, kiṃ tarhi? paśyetyanena. padaśabdo'pyatrānvartha eva, na pāribhāṣikaḥ. tathā hi subantasya padasaṃjñā ṭacopapadasaṃjñāvidhanakāle subantatayāsti; yasmādupapadasaṃjñāyāṃ vihitāyāmupapadāśraye'pi pratyaya upapadasamāso'pi "gatirakārakopapadānāṃ kṛdbhiḥ samāsavacanaṃ prāk()subutpatteḥ" (vyā.pa.vṛ.138) iti subutpattyā bhavitavyaḥ. tasmādanvartho'yaṃ padaśabdaḥ-- padyate gamyate'rtho yena tat padamiti.
