atheha kathaṃ ṇijbhavati-- bhikṣā vāsayati, kārīṣo.ñagniradhyāpayatīti? kathañca na syāt? acetanatvāt, cetanavato hretadbhavati preṣaṇamadhyeṣaṇaṃ vā? naiṣa doṣaḥ; uktaṃ hretat-- "ādigrahaṇena tatsamarthācaraṇasya grahaṇam" iti. tacchabdena yatra vasanādau prayojyo niyujyate tatsambadhyate tatra vāsādau. ye samarthāḥ = yogyāḥ, anukūlāstṛptiviśeṣādayasteṣāmācaraṇaṃ sampādanam = tatsamarthācaraṇam, tadapi prayojakavyāpāra eva. bhikṣā hi pracurataravyañjanavatyo labhyamānā rasānukūlaṃ tṛptiviśeṣamupajanayantyeva. kārīṣo'gnirapi nirvātapradeśeṣu suprajvalito'dhyayanavirodhinaṃ śītādikṛtamupadravamupaśamayannadhyayanānukūlaṃ sāmathryamādadhāti. atastayorapi yuktaṃ prayojakatvam.
"tatkaroti" ityādi. taditi karmapadam. etat karotītyarthanirdeśaḥ. taditi karmaṇaḥ prātipadikāt karotītyasminnarthe ṇica upasaṃkhyānaṃ pratipādanaṃ katrtavyamityarthaḥ. kimarthamityāha--- "sūtrayatītyādyartham" iti. tatredaṃ prātipādanam-- curādau "prātipadikaddhātvarthe" ityasya "tatkarotati" ityayaṃ prapañcaḥ paṭha()te. tena sūtrādibhyaḥ prātipadikebhyaḥ karmabhyaḥ karotyarthe ṇij bhavatīti. "ākhyānāt kṛtaḥ" ityādikaṃ vākyam "ākhyānāt kṛdantāt" ityādinā vyācaṣṭe. ākhyāyata ityākhyānam. yat kiñcidākhyāyate tat sarvaṃ rājāgamanādikamapīhākhyānamabhipretam, na tu saṃjñābhūtameva kaṃsavadhādikam. tasya yo vācakaḥ śabdaḥ so'pyabhidhāne'bhidheyopacārādākhyānamityucyate. kṛditi pratyayagrahamam, pratyayagrahaṇe ca tadantavidhirbhavatītyāha--- "kṛdantāt" ityādi. "vaktavyaḥ" iti. vyākhyeya ityarthaḥ. "tat" iti. karmapadametat. "ācaṣṭe" iti. pratyayārthaḥ. "kulluk" iti. yena kṛtā tadantamākhyānamucyate tasya lugbhavatītyanena vakṣyamāṇena sambandhaḥ. "prakṛtipratyāpattiḥ" iti. yāsau prakṛtiḥ pratyayamutpāditavatī sā'vikṛtārthenaiva rūpeṇāvatiṣṭhata ityarthaḥ. "prakṛtivacca karām" iti. cakāro bhinnakramaḥ kārakasyānantaraṃ draṣṭavyaḥ. kāryaśabdaścātrādhyāhāryaḥ. tenāyamartho bhavati-- kṛto yā prakṛtirhanyādistasyā yathā kāryamaḍāgamādi, tathā ṇyantāyā api bhavatīti. kiñca kārakañca prakṛtivadbhavatīti? kṛtaḥ prakṛteryādṛśaṃ kārakamabhūt ṇyantāyā api prakṛtestādṛśameva bhavatīti. tatredaṃ vyākhyānam-- curādau "prātipadikāddhātvarthe bahulamiṣṭhavacca" (vā. 813) iti paṭha()te, "tatkaroti" ityādikañca tasyaiva prapañcaḥ. bahulaṃ tatrādhikavidhānārthamiti sarvametadyathoktaṃ bhaviṣyatīti. evamuttaratrāpi vyākhyānaṃ katrtavyam. kimarthaṃ punaḥ kāryaśabdamadhyāhmatya kāryātideśo vaṇryate? ākhyānāvayavabhūtāyāḥ prakṛteraḍāgamādikāryaṃ yathā syāt. anyathā hi yadi prakṛtivacca kārakaṃ bhavatīti kārakātideśa eva kriyeta tadā "kṛdgrahaṇe gatikārakapūrvasyāpi grahaṇam" (vyā.pa.126) iti kaṃsavadhādibhyo ṇici kṛte'ṅgasaṃjñā nāmadhātutvañca teṣāmeva syāt tataścāḍ()dvirvacane teṣāmeva syātām. kiñca-- dhātoḥ svarūpagrahaṇe tatpratyaye tat kāryaṃ vijñāyeta, kaṃsavadhaśabdācca ṇici vihite tatvakutve na syātām, tataśca kasaṃmaghātadrājānamajīgamadityādi na sidhyet. kāryātideśe yadyapi samudāyebhyaḥ kaṃsavadhādibhyo ṇijvihitaḥ, tathāpi kṛto yā prakṛtirhanyādistasyāḥ kevalāyā akṛdantāyā yathā'ḍāgamādikāryaṃ bhavati, tathā kṛdantāyā api ṇici vihite bhavatīti na bhavatyeṣa doṣaḥ. tasmāt kāryamatidiśyate. "ata upadhāyāḥ"7.2.116 iti vṛddhiḥ, "ho hanterñṇinneṣu" 7.3.54 iti hakārasya ghakāraḥ, "hanasto'ciṇṇaloḥ" 7.3.32 iti tatvam. kārakañca kaṃsavadha ityasyāḥ prakṛteryādṛśamāsīt tādṛśameva bhavati, karma ca kārakaṃ kaṃsa āsīt. tathā ca kṛdyogalakṣaṇāyāḥ karmaṣaṣṭha()ā kaṃsavadha iti samāsaḥ. sa kaṃsa ākhyānakriyāyāmapyatideśāt karmaiva bhavati. asatyatideśe, ākhyākriyāyāḥ kaṃsavadhaśabdastadartho vā karma syāt; tayoreva tathā vyāpyamānatvāt. kaṃsastvākhyānakriyāyāmujjhitavyāpāra eveti karmabhāvaṃ na pratipadyet. tasmāt kārakātideśaḥ. "āṅalopaśca" ityādi. maryādāvācī ya āṅa tasya lopo vaktavyaḥ. cakārāt pūrvokktañca ṇijādikāryam. "kālātyantasaṃyoge" iti. kṛtsnasya kālasya vyāptiḥ = kālātyantasaṃyogaḥ, tasmin gamyamāne. "ārātrivivāsamācaṣṭe" iti. vivasanaṃ vivāsaḥ, bhāve ghañ. rātrervivāsa iti ṣaṣṭhīsamāsaḥ. paścāt "āha maryādābhividhyoḥ" 2.1.12 ityavayyībhāvasamāsaḥ. rātriśabdaśceha rātrisahacaritāsu kriyāsu vatrtate, vasirapi vipūrvo'tikrame. tenāyamartho bhavati-- asatmayanāt prabhṛti yāḥ pravṛttāḥ kriyāstā yāvadatikrāntā rātriḥ sākalyena kathayīti. `anumatyādī'tyādiśabdenātropadeśānugrahayorupādānam. `jvaritaḥ kaṣāyaṃ
pibe'dityupadeśamātreṇa vaidyādiḥ prayojakaḥ. yastu kenaciddhantumiṣṭaṃ palāyamānaṃ
niruṇaddhi so'pi hanturanugrāhakatvena prayojakaḥ. sarve'pyete viśeṣāḥ kathaṃ
ṇicpratyayagamyā iti cet. atrāhuḥ– sarvānugataṃ pravartanāsāmānyaṃ ṇico'rthaḥ,
viśeṣāstvarthaprakaraṇādigamyā iti. nanvevaṃ ṇico loḍādīnāṃ ca paryāyatā syāttataśca
`idānīṃ pṛcchatu bhavā'niti vaktavaye `pracchayatī'ti ṇijapa prayujyeteti cet. maivam.
kartuḥ prayojako hi hetuḥ, praiṣaviṣayo yaḥ saṃbodhyo daivadattādiḥ sa tu nādyādi
praśnakartṛtvenāvadhāritaḥ. tathā ca prayojyapravṛttyupahitā yā
prayojakaniṣṭhapravṛttiḥ sā ṇijarthaḥ, tadanupahitā prayojakapravṛttistu loḍartha
ityubhayorbhedaḥ. uktaṃ ca — dravyamātrasya tu praiṣe pṛcchāderloḍ vidhīyate.
sakriyasya prayogastu yadā sa viṣayo ṇicaḥ'.iti. asyārthaḥ— kartṛtvenā'navadhāritasya
devadattadestu praiṣe `praccha jñīpsāyāṭamityāderloḍbhavati.
prayojyapravṛttyupahitapravṛttyāśrayasya prayuktistu yadā sā ṇico viṣaya iti.
kiṃ ca prayoktṛniṣṭhā prayuktirloḍarthaḥ, prayokraprayoktṛkartakā tu ṇijarthaḥ.
`paca devadatte'tyatra hi vaktaiva prerakaḥ. `pācayatī'tyādau vaktṛbhinnaḥ,
`pācayāmī'tyādau tu vakteti dik.
