tiṅa iti prathamābahuvacanam. tiṅaḥ saṃjñinaḥ kiṃbhutāḥ? trīṇi trīṇityevambhūtā ityarthaḥ. vacanāpekṣayā napuṃsakaliṅgena nirdeśaḥ. vīpsāyāñcaitad()dvirjanam. yadi tiṅastrīṇi trīṇi vacanāni prathamamadhyamottamapuruṣasaṃjñakāni bhavanti, evaṃ sati ṣaṭ()trikāḥ saṃjñinaḥ saṃjñāstitra iti yathāsaṃkhyaṃ na prāpnoti; vaiṣamyāt. tatra yadyekasyānekasaṃjñāvidhānavaiyathryādekā saṃjñā bhavet, na tvekaikasya tiruāḥ, tathāpi saivaikaikā bhavantītyavyavasthā vā syāt; naiṣa doṣaḥ;iha hi parasmaipadagrahaṇamātmanepadagarhaṇañcānuvartate. tadanuvṛttau ca dvau rāśī bhavataḥ- navānāṃ tiṅāṃ parasmaipadasaṃjñakānāmeko rāśiḥ, tathā nāvānāmātmanepadasaṃjñakānāṃ dvitīyaḥ. tatra prathame rāśau ye trayastrikāḥ, ye ca dvitīye rāśau trayastrikāstairidaṃ sūtraṃ pratyekamabhisambadhyate-- parasmaipadeṣu tiṅastrīṇi trīṇi pthamamadhyamottamāḥ, tathātmanepadeṣu tiṅastrīṇi trīṇi prathamamadhyamottamā iti. evaṃ hi sati na bhavati saṃkhyātānudeśābhāvaprasaṅgaḥ. tamevārthaṃ darśayitumāha-- "tiṅo'ṣṭādaśa pratyayāḥ" iti. "nava" ityādinā rāśidvayaṃ darśayati. "tatra" ityādinā prathame rāśau ye trayastrikāstairasya sūtrasya sambandha#ṃ karoti. "ātmanepadeṣu" ityādināpi dvitīye rāśau ye trayastrikāstaiśca॥
"tāni" iti bahuvacanaṃ saṃjñāsamāveśārtham; anyathā hrekasaṃjñādhikāre sati vacanparāmāṇyāt puruṣavacanasaṃjñāḥ paryāyeṇa pravarteran. evañca tatra "āḍuttamasya picca" 3.4.92 ityādinā vidhīyamānamāḍādikāryaṃ pākṣikaṃ syāt. a()smastu sati bhavati saṃjñāsamāveśaḥ. tacchabdena hi trīṇi trīṇi labdhapuruṣasaṃjñakāni tānyekavacanādisaṃjñakāni bhavantīti pratyavamṛśyante, tena yāni labdhaprathamapuruṣādisaṃjñakāni tānyevaikavacanādisaṃjñakāni bhavanti. nanu ca trikāṇāṃ prathamādisaṃjñaikaikasya caikavacanādisaṃjñā, tatra viṣayabedādekasaṃjñādhikāre'pi virodho nāstyeveti; naiṣa doṣaḥ; tadasti puruṣādisaṃjñāpi hi pratyekameva, na hi samudāyo nāmānyastrikebhyo'sti; tasmāt tibādayastrakā eva saṃjñinaḥ. trigrahaṇantu maryādārtham. tratvasaṃkhyāparicchinnāstiṅaḥ pratyekaṃ puruṣasaṃjñāḥ pratipādyante. tasmāt prathamādisaṃjñānāmekavacanādisaṃjñānāñcaikaviṣayataiveti saṃjñāsamāveśārthaṃ tānītyuktam॥
