Grammatical Sūtra: लियः सम्माननशालिनीकरणयोश्च liyaḥ sammānanaśālinīkaraṇayośca

Description:

After the causative of the verb lû to melt or stick, the Atmanepada is employed, when used in the sense of showing respect, subduing and deceiving, even, though the fruit of action does not accrue to the agent. Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

[Ātmanepadá l-substitutes are introduced after the verbal stem 12] lī- `melt, cling' (IV 31, IX 31) [co-occurring with the causative marker Ṇí 67] to express the senses of `honor, respect' (sammānana) or `subdue, humiliate' (śālinī-káraṇa) and (ca) [deceit 69].
