yadyevam, prakṛtipratyayasamudāyasyārthavataḥ prātipadikasaṃjñā na syāt-- bahupaṭava uccakairiti? ko'tra doṣaḥ? `bahupaṭava' ityatra prātipadikasaṃjñā na syāt. īṣadasamāptāvityanuvṛttau `vibhāṣā
supo bahucpurastāttu' iti sūtreṇa `paṭava' iti prathamābahuvacanāntātpūrvato
bahucpratyaye kṛte'rthavaditi prātipadikatvāttadavayavajaso luki `citaḥ
saprakṛterbahvajartha'miti ṭakārādukārasya udāttatve citsvare kṛte punarjasi
`bahupaṭava' iti rūpam. atra ṭakārādakāra udātta iti sthitiḥ. jasantātpūrvato
bahucpratyaye bahupaṭava iti samudāyasya prātipadikatvā.ñabhāve tu tato jasantaraṃ

vākyasya vā'sti, na tu kṛttaddhitāntasya, yadi tu prakriyādaśāyāṃ yā kalpitā sā
vivakṣyate, tarhi kṛttaddhitayorapi sā'stīti kathamarthavadgrahaṇānuvṛttyā
tadantagrahaṇamiti cedatrāhuḥ,-ataevārthavadgrahaṇasāmathryamuktam. pratyayāntena
hrokārthībhūtena pratīyamāno'rtha iha gṛhrate. tasya lokikārthaṃ prati
pratyāsannataratvānmatupaḥ prāśastyaparatayā tasyaiva grahaṇāt. ataeva ca tadupādānaṃ
sārthakaṃ, pūrvasūtre `adhātu'riti `kartā ' `aupagava' ityādau `apratyayānta' iti ca

pratyayagrahaṇe yasmātsa vihitastadādereva grahaṇāt. na
caivamapyanupasarjanastrīpratyaye tadādiniyamā'bhāvādrājakumārītyādau ṅībante
vidhyarthamastviti vācyam, `antaraṅgānapi vidhīnbahiraṅgo lugbādhate' iti
lugviṣaye halṅyādilopā'pravṛttyā śrūyamāṇa eva supi samāsapravṛtteḥ. tatra ca
kumārīśabdasya subantatve'pi rājaśabdasahita

niyamaśarīramāha-yatra saṅghāta iti. niyamaścātra sajātīyāpekṣa ityāha-pūrvo bhāgaḥ
padamiti. ṣaḍvidhe'pi samāse pūrvabhāgasya padatvā'vyabhicārādbhavatyayaṃ sajātīyaḥ. `pūrvo
bhāga' ityupalakṣaṇam, `uttarastu pratyayo ne'tyapi bodhyam. anyathā
`janmavā'nityādau saṃjñā na syāt, `svādiṣvi'tyanena pūrvabhāgasya padatvāt. na ca
taddhitagrahaṇasāmathryāttatra syādeveti vācyaṃ, taddhitagrahaṇasya `bhānava' ityādau
kṛtārthatvāt. tatra hi pūrvabhāgasya bhatvaṃ, na tu padatvam. na
caivamayamiyānityādisamudāyasya prātipadikatvaṃ syādeva, pūrvabhāgasya
padatve'pyuttarasya pratyayatvādanena niyamena vārayitumaśakyatvāditi vācyam ;
`uttarastu pratyayo ne'tyatra `tadvihitapratyayo ne'ti vyākhyānāt. pūrvo bhāgaḥ
padamiti kim ?, bahujviśiṣṭasya prātipadikasaṃjñā yathā syāt. tena `bahupaṭava'
ityatra upottamodāttatvaṃ sidhyati. prathamajaso luki `citaḥ saprakṛterbahvakajartha'miti
citsvare kṛte punarjasa utpatteḥ. prātipadikasaṃjñāyāmasatyāṃ tu jasevodāttaḥ
syāt. yadvā `prakṛtipratyayabhāvānāpannasaṅghātasya cedbhavati tarhi samāsasyaive'ti
niyamārthaṃ `samāsa'grahaṇam. tena gavityayamāhe'tyādau nātiprasaṅga iti dik.
niyamaphalamāha-tena vākyasya neti. `gāṃmabhyāja śuklā'mityādivākyasya na bhavatītyarthaḥ.
satyāṃ hi saṃjñāyāṃ subluksyāt. nanvevamapi `mūlakenopadaṃśaṃ bhuṅkte'
ityādivākyasya saṃjñā durvārā, `kṛdgrahaṇe gatikārakapūrvasyāpi grahaṇā'diti
cenmaivam. samāsagrahaṇarṛtaniyamena paratvādbādhāt. evaṃca `kṛttaddhite'ti sūtre
kṛdgrahaṇaparibhāṣā niṣphalatvānnopatiṣṭhate. tasyāśca paribhāṣāyāḥ `vyāvakrośī'
`vyāvahāsī'tyatrāvakāśaḥ. tatra hi `karmavyatihāre ṇacstriyā'miti dhātorṇaci kṛte
gatipūrvasya ṇajantatvāt `ṇacaḥ striyā'mityañisatyupasargākārasyādivṛddhisvarau
bhavataḥ. kṛdgrahaṇe kārakapūrvasyāpyudāharaṇam-avatapte nakulasthitamityādi
sphuṭībhaviṣyati. cakāro'nuktasamuccayārthaḥ. tena `nipātasyānarthakasya
prātipadikasaṃjñā vaktavye'ti vārtikaṃ gatārtham. yeṣāṃ dyotyo'pyartho nāsti
tadarthamidam,-avadyati. anukaraṇeṣu tu anukāryeṇa

"arthava"dityanuvartate, tatsāmathryāttadantavidhiḥ. nanu yadyarthavattā pāramārthikīṃ vivakṣyate, sā padasya vākyasya vā'sti, na tu kṛttaddhitāntasya, yadi tu prakriyādaśāyāṃ yā kalpitā sā vivakṣyate, tarhi kṛttaddhitayorapi sā'stīti kathamarthavadgrahaṇānuvṛttyā tadantagrahaṇamiti cedatrāhuḥ,-ataevārthavadgrahaṇasāmathryamuktam. pratyayāntena hrokārthībhūtena pratīyamāno'rtha iha gṛhrate. tasya lokikārthaṃ prati pratyāsannataratvānmatupaḥ prāśastyaparatayā tasyaiva grahaṇāt. ataeva ca tadupādānaṃ sārthakaṃ, pūrvasūtre "adhātu"riti "kartā " "aupagava" ityādau "apratyayānta" iti ca paryudāse prāpte "kṛttaddhite"tyārambhaḥ. niyamārthamiti. na ca pratyayāntatvena paryudāse prāpte vidhyarthamastviti śaṅkyam ; vākyasyā'pratyayāntatvāt. pratyayagrahaṇe yasmātsa vihitastadādereva grahaṇāt. na caivamapyanupasarjanastrīpratyaye tadādiniyamā'bhāvādrājakumārītyādau ṅībante vidhyarthamastviti vācyam, "antaraṅgānapi vidhīnbahiraṅgo lugbādhate" iti lugviṣaye halṅyādilopā'pravṛttyā śrūyamāṇa eva supi samāsapravṛtteḥ. tatra ca kumārīśabdasya subantatve'pi rājaśabdasahita[kumārī]śabdasyā'tathātvādapratyayāntatvena pravṛttāyāḥ saṃjñāyā ekadeśavikṛtanyāyena vibhaktilukyapi sulabhatvāt. ataeva "gomatpriya"ityādau numādayo na, lukaḥ prāgantaraṅgasya hasṅyādilopasya pravṛttau tu syureveti dik. niyamaśarīramāha-yatra saṅghāta iti. niyamaścātra sajātīyāpekṣa ityāha-pūrvo bhāgaḥ padamiti. ṣaḍvidhe'pi samāse pūrvabhāgasya padatvā'vyabhicārādbhavatyayaṃ sajātīyaḥ. "pūrvo bhāga" ityupalakṣaṇam, "uttarastu pratyayo ne"tyapi bodhyam. anyathā "janmavā"nityādau saṃjñā na syāt, "svādiṣvi"tyanena pūrvabhāgasya padatvāt. na ca taddhitagrahaṇasāmathryāttatra syādeveti vācyaṃ, taddhitagrahaṇasya "bhānava" ityādau kṛtārthatvāt. tatra hi pūrvabhāgasya bhatvaṃ, na tu padatvam. na caivamayamiyānityādisamudāyasya prātipadikatvaṃ syādeva, pūrvabhāgasya padatve'pyuttarasya pratyayatvādanena niyamena vārayitumaśakyatvāditi vācyam ; "uttarastu pratyayo ne"tyatra "tadvihitapratyayo ne"ti vyākhyānāt. pūrvo bhāgaḥ padamiti kim?, bahujviśiṣṭasya prātipadikasaṃjñā yathā syāt. tena "bahupaṭava" ityatra upottamodāttatvaṃ sidhyati. prathamajaso luki "citaḥ saprakṛterbahvakajartha"miti citsvare kṛte punarjasa utpatteḥ. prātipadikasaṃjñāyāmasatyāṃ tu jasevodāttaḥ syāt. yadvā "prakṛtipratyayabhāvānāpannasaṅghātasya cedbhavati tarhi samāsasyaive"ti niyamārthaṃ "samāsa"grahaṇam. tena gavityayamāhe"tyādau nātiprasaṅga iti dik. niyamaphalamāha-tena vākyasya neti. "gāṃmabhyāja śuklā"mityādivākyasya na bhavatītyarthaḥ. satyāṃ hi saṃjñāyāṃ subluksyāt. nanvevamapi "mūlakenopadaṃśaṃ bhuṅkte" ityādivākyasya saṃjñā durvārā, "kṛdgrahaṇe gatikārakapūrvasyāpi grahaṇā"diti cenmaivam. samāsagrahaṇarṛtaniyamena paratvādbādhāt. evaṃca "kṛttaddhite"ti sūtre kṛdgrahaṇaparibhāṣā niṣphalatvānnopatiṣṭhate. tasyāśca paribhāṣāyāḥ "vyāvakrośī" "vyāvahāsī"tyatrāvakāśaḥ. tatra hi "karmavyatihāre ṇacstriyā"miti dhātorṇaci kṛte gatipūrvasya ṇajantatvāt "ṇacaḥ striyā"mityañisatyupasargākārasyādivṛddhisvarau bhavataḥ. kṛdgrahaṇe kārakapūrvasyāpyudāharaṇam-avatapte nakulasthitamityādi sphuṭībhaviṣyati. cakāro'nuktasamuccayārthaḥ. tena "nipātasyānarthakasya prātipadikasaṃjñā vaktavye"ti vārtikaṃ gatārtham. yeṣāṃ dyotyo'pyartho nāsti tadarthamidam,-avadyati. anukaraṇeṣu tu anukāryeṇa sahā'bhedavivakṣāyāmarthavattvā'bhāvādeva na prātipadikatvam. "bhū sattāyā"miti yathā. bhedavivakṣāyāṃ tu saṃjñā syādeva-"bhuvo vu"giti yathā.
