pūrvanighāta पूर्वनिघात
Definition: the grave accent for the preceding acute vowel as a result of the following vowel made acute, and the preceding, as a result, turned into grave by virtue of the rule अनुदात्तं पदमेकवर्जम् VI.1.198: cf. मतुब्विभक्त्युदात्तत्वं पूर्वनिघातस्यानिमित्तं स्यात् । अग्निमान् । वायुमान् । M. Bh. on P.I.1.39 Vart. 16.
