dhava Is the name of a tree (Grislea tormentosa) mentioned, together with the Plaksa, Asvattha, and Khadira, in the Atharvaveda.
dhava ‘Man,’ is not found before the Nirukta. The word clearly owes its existence merely to vidhavā, ‘ widow,’ wrongly interpreted as vi-dhavā, * without a husband.’
naitandhava Is mentioned as a place on the Sarasvatī in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmana and the Sūtras.
sapta sindhava The seven rivers,' occur only once in the Rigveda as the designation of a definite country, while elsewhere the seven rivers themselves are meant. Max Muller thinks that the five streams of the Panjab, with the Indus and the Sarasvatī, are intended; others4 hold that the Kubhā should be substituted for the Sarasvatī, or that perhaps the Oxus6 must originally have been one of the seven. Zimmer is probably right in laying no stress at all on any identifications; 'seven' being one of the favourite numbers in the Rigveda and later.
saindhava ‘Coming from the Indus,’ is a term applied to water in the Taittirlya Samhitā, to Guggulu in the Atharvaveda, to a horse in the śatapatha Brāhmaṇa, and to salt in the same text.

As the colophon of the work shows, the Dhatuvrtti was written by Sayanacarya, but published under the name of Madhava, the brother of Sayanacarya: confer, compare इति महामन्त्रिणा मायणसुतेन माधवसहोदरेण सायणाचार्येण विरचितायां माधवीयायां धातुवृत्तौ...Madhaviya Dha tuvrtti at the end; cf also तेन मायणपुत्रेण सायणेन मनीषिणा । व्याख्येया माधवी चेयं धातुवृत्तिर्विरच्यते । Mad.
