ātman आत्मन्

Definition: m. the individual soul, self, abstract individual [ exempli gratia, 'for example' ātm/an- (Ved. locative case) dhatte-, or karoti-,"he places in himself", makes his own ; ātmanā akarot-,"he did it himself" ; ātmanā vi-yuj-,"to lose one's life" ; ātman- in the sg. is used as reflexive pronoun for all three persons and all three genders exempli gratia, 'for example' ātmānaṃ sā hanti-,"she strikes herself"; putram ātmanaḥ spṛṣṭvā nipetatuḥ-,"they two having touched their son fell down" ; see also below sub voce, i.e. the word in the Sanskrit order ātmanā- ]
