ṇit णित्
Definition: an affix with the mute con.sonant ण् added to it to signify the substitution of vrddhi for the preceding vowel or for the penultimate अ or for the first vowel of the word if the affix applied is a taddhita affix; cf. P. VII.2.115117: e. g. अण्, ण, उण्, णि etc.: (2) an affix not actually marked with the mute letter ण् but looked upon as such for the purpose of vrddhi; e. g. the Sarvanamasthana affixes after the words गो and सखि, cf. P. VII.1.90, 92.
