Definition: n. six acts any one of which is allowable to a Brahman householder as a means of subsistence (viz. ṛta-,"gleaning", amṛta-,"unsolicited alms", mṛta-,"solicited alms", karṣaṇa-,"agriculture", satyānṛta-,"commerce or trade", śva-vṛtti-,"servitude", the last being condemned)
