The letters of the Pratyâhâra ((aṇ)) i. e. the vowels and semi-vowels, and a term having ((u)) for its indicatory letter, refer to their own form as well as to their homogeneous letters, except when they are used as pratyâyâs or affixes. Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

(A phoneme) denoted by the siglum aṆ² (= a, i, u, r̥, l̥, e, o, ai, au, h, y, v, r, l) or one having the marker U as IT denotes (not only itself [sváṁ rūpaṁ 68] but also) all phonemes homogeneous with it (sávarṇasya), unless it is an affix (pratyayáḥ).
