Description:

In the absence of any special rule, whenever gu{n}a or v{r}iddhi is enjoined about any expression by using the terms gu{n}a or v{r}iddhi, it is to be understood to come in the room of the ik vowels only (i, u, {r}i; and {l}i long and short,) of that expression. Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

When the t.t. guṇá (2) and vŕd-dhi (1) are introduced as replacements (and the substituendum is not specified), they replace only the vowels denoted by the siglum iK (= i, u, r̥ and l̥).
