abhyāvartin cāyamāna Appears in a Dānastuti (‘ Praise of Gifts ’) in the Rigveda, and as conqueror of the Vrcīvants under the leader Varaśikha. It is probable, though not absolutely certain, that he is identical with the Srñjaya Daivavāta, mentioned in the same hymn as having the Turvaśas and Vrcīvants defeated for him by Indra. In this case he would be prince (samrāj) of the Syñjayas. Daivavāta is mentioned elsewhere as a worshipper of Agni. Abhyāvartin is also referred to as a Pārthava. Ludwig and Hillebrandt maintained that he is thus a Parthian, the latter using the evidence of the two places mentioned in the descrip¬tion of Daivavāta’s victories, Hariyūpīyā and Yavyāvatī, as proofs for the western position of Abhyāvartin’s people in Arachosia, in Iran. But Zimmer is probably right in holding that the name Pārthava merely means ‘ a descendant of Prthu,’ and that its similarity to the Iranian Parthians is only on a par with the numerous other points of identity between the Indian and Iranian cultures
ekayāvan gāṃdama Is a man mentioned in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmana and the Taittirīya Brāhmana.
devataras syāvasāyana kāśyapa (‘Descendant of Kaśyapa’) is mentioned in the Jaiminīya Upanisad Brāhmana as a pupil of Rśyaśrñga. In the Vamśa Brāhmana, as śāvasāyana, he is a pupil of his father śavas, who again was a pupil of Kāśyapa.
pastyāvant Occurs in one passage of the Rigveda in the locative parallel with Susoma, Saryanāvant, and Arjīka. It must apparently denote a place, as Pischel argues, probably corresponding to the locality ‘in the middle of the streams’ (madhye pastyāηām), elsewhere referred to as the home of Soma. Pischel suggests that Patiāla is meant, though he does not lay any stress on the similarity of name. In the north of Patiāla there are hills where the Soma might have grown. Roth thought that something connected with the Soma press was meant.
madhyāvarṣa The middle of the rains,’ is specially mentioned as a time of the year in the Kauṣītaki Brāhmana and in the Sūtras.
yavyāva Is the name of a river in the Rigveda and in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmana. Hillebrandt thinks that the river is one in Iran, the Djob (Zhobe), near the Iryāb (Haliāb), but there is no reason to accept this identification.
yāvara denotes a person of no fixed abode in the Yajurveda Samhitās.
śyāva Is the name of a protegá of the Aśvins in the Rigveda. He may be identical with Hiraṇyahasta.
śyāva Is mentioned in the Rigveda as a generous donor on the Suvāstu river.
śyāva In one passage of the Rigveda seems clearly, as Sāyaṇa thinks, to denote śyāvāśva.
śyāvaka Is mentioned as a sacrificer and friend of Indra in the Rigveda. He may be identical with 2. Śyāva.
śyāvasāyana Is the patronymic of Devataras in the Jaiminiya Upaniṣad Brāhmaṇa. The form is perhaps an error for śāvasāyana.

ayāvananon-mixture of words where the previous word is in no way the cause of (any charge in) the next word. अयावनं अमिश्रयम् U1. varia lectio, another reading, on Ṛgvedaprātiśākhya by Śaunaka ( Sanskrit Sāhityapariṣad Edition, Calcutta.) XI. 12 e. g, अग्निमीळे where the क्रमपाठ is अग्निं ईळे ।
kriyāvacanameaning or expressing a verbal activity; a term generally applied to dhātus or roots, or even to verbs. The term is also applied to denominative affixes like क्यच् which produce a sort of verbal activity in the noun to which they are added; confer, compare क्रियावचनाः क्यजादय: M.Bh. on III.1.19.
prācyāvaiyākaraṇaan eastern grammarian; the term प्राच्य (eastern) being a relative term, the east is to be taken with respect to the place in the context. The word प्राचां occurs many times in Panini's Sutras and the term प्राक् may refer to countries east of the river शरावती or सरस्वती in the Punjab. See प्राग्देश a reference to some preceding word, not necessarily on the same page.. प्राचां is understood by some commentators as referring to time, in which case, the word may refer to ancient grammarians आपिशलि, शाकटायन, इन्द्र and others who lived before Panini; confer, compare प्राचीनवैयाकरणतन्त्रे वाचनिकानि ...Par. Sek. Pari. 1. The word प्राचीन is, of course, mostly used in the sense of ancient, rather than the word प्राच्. For specific peculiarities of the eastern grammarians see pp. 148-149 Vyakarana Mahabhasya Vol. VII. D. E. Society's Edition.
