vasana In the Rigveda and later denotes ‘dress.’
vasanta Spring,' is mentioned in the Rigveda and later. It is regularly identified with the first of the months. See Rtu.
vasati Denotes in the Rigveda and later ‘abode,’ ‘house.’
ajīgarta sauyavasa This is the name given to the father of Sunahśepa in the famous legend of the Aitareya Brāhmana, perhaps invented for the occasion, as Weber suggests.
avasa In the adjective an-avasa in the Rigveda may mean drag.
āyavasa Is mentioned apparently as a king in a corrupt and unintelligible verse of the Rigveda.
āvasatha (‘dwelling’).—The precise sense of this term appears to be a place for the reception of guests, especially Brāhmanas and others on the occasion of feasts and sacrifices 'somewhat like the modern meaning of Dharma-sālā as a rest- house for pilgrims), a use derived from the more general sense of ‘ abode.’
upakvasa Is the name in the Atharvaveda of a noxious insect injurious to seed. Sāyana, however, reads the word as a plural adjective (a-pakvasah = a-dagdhāh), but the Paippalāda recension supports the form upakvasah.
upagu sauśravasa Is mentioned in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmana as Purohita of Kutsa Aurava, by whom he was murdered because of his paying homage to Indra.
kuśri vājaśravasa Appears as a teacher concerned with the lore of the sacred fire in the Satapatha Brāhmana, and in the last Vamśa (list of teachers) of the Brhadāranyaka Upanisad he is mentioned as a pupil of Vājaśravas. It is not clear whether he is identical with the Kuśri of the last Vamśa of the Brhadāranyaka in the Kānva recension, and of the Vamśa in the tenth book of the śatapatha, who is mentioned as a pupil of Yajñavacas Rājastambāyana.

dhvasan dvaitavana (‘Descendant of Dvitavana ’) is the name in the śatapatha Brāhmana of the king of the Matsyas who celebrated an Aśvamedha, or ‘horse sacrifice,’ near the Sarasvatī.
dhvasanti Is in one passage of the Rigveda mentioned together with Purusanti as having been aided by the Aśvins. There can be no doubt that this is the longer form of the name Dhvasra, which is found with Purusanti both in the Rigveda and in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmana.
pārthaśravasa ‘Descendant of Prthu-śravas,’ is found as the name of a demon in the Jaiminīya Upanisad Brāhmana.
pṛthuśravas daureśravasa (‘Descendant of Dūreśravas’) is the name of the Udgātṛ priest at the snake festival mentioned in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmapa.
manor avasarpaṇa Is the name, in the śatapatha Brāhmana, of the mountain on which the vessel of Manu rested. In the Epic the name is Naubandhana, but the view that it is alluded to as Nāvaprabhramśana in the Atharvaveda is now abandoned.
muñja sāmaśravasa (‘Descendant of Sāmaśravas’) is the name of a man, possibly a king, mentioned in the Jaiminiya Upaniṣad Brāhmana and the Sadvimśa Brāhmana.
yavasa In the Rigveda and later denotes the ‘grass’ on which animals feed, and which is burned by the forest fire.
yavasa In the Rigveda and later denotes the ‘grass’ on which animals feed, and which is burned by the forest fire.
vājaśravasa Descendant of Vājaśravas,' is the patronymic of Kuśri in the śatapatha Brāhmaṇa. It is also the patronymic of the father of Naciketas in the Taittirīya Brāhmaṇa, where the name is apparently Uśant, though it is understood by Sāyaṇa as a participle in the sense of ‘desiring.’ The Vājaśravases are in the Taittirīya Brāhmaṇa said to have been sages. They were Gotaraas.
śavasa Occurs only in the false reading śavasa - Uśitiaresu in the Gopatha Brāhmana for sa-Vaśośīnareṣu. See Vaáa.
sāmaśravasa (‘Descendant of Sāmaśravas’) is the patronymic of Kuçītaka in the Pañcaviṃśa Brāhmana.
suyavasa Denotes a ‘good pasture’ in the Rigveda and later.
suvasana In the Rigveda denotes a ‘splendid garment,’ and is also used adjectivally, ‘clothing well.’ Su-vāsas, 'well- dressed' is a common adjective. See Vāsas.
sauśravasa ‘Descendant of Suśravas,’ is the patronymic of Upag’u in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmaṇa, and the Kaṇva Sauśravasas are mentioned in the Kāthaka Samhitā.
svasara According to the St. Petersburg Dictionary, denotes ‘cattle stall,’ and more generally ‘dwelling-place,’ ‘house,’ and then ‘nest of birds.’ Geldner, however, shows that the real sense is the ‘wandering at will’ of cattle, more precisely their ‘grazing in the morning,’ and in the case of birds their ‘early flight’ from the nest, while metaphorically it is applied first to the morning pressing of Soma and then to all three pressings.
