[अरण्ये भवः वुञ्] Relating to or produced in a forest, wild, forest-born (usually with the words अध्याय, मनुष्य, न्याय, पथिन्, विहार, and हस्तिन् P.IV.2.129 Vārt.) -कः A forester, an inhabitant of the woods; तपः ष़ड्भागमक्षय्यं ददत्यारण्यका हि नः Ś.2.14; द्वावप्यत्रारण्यकौ Ś.5. आरण्यकोपात्तफलप्रसूतिः R.5.15. -कम् An Āraṇyaka; it is one of a class of religious and philosophical writings (connected with the Brāhmaṇas) which are either composed in forests, or must be studied there; e. g. ऐतरेयारण्यकम्; बृहदारण्यकम् and तैत्तिरीया- रण्यकम्; अरण्ये$नूच्यमानत्वात् आरण्यकम्, Bṛi. Ar. Up.; (अरण्ये$- ध्ययनादेव आरण्यकमुदाहृतम्); वेदवादानतिक्रम्य शास्त्राण्यारण्यकानि च Mb.12.19.17. -Comp. -काण्डम् the title of the third book of the Rāmāyaṇa. -गानम् = अरण्यगानम्.
